The Chilterns

This garden nestles in an extraordinarily beautiful valley in the Chilterns hills. It had a challenging topography where we had to re-model the steep banks around the house to open it up and connect it to the surrounding countryside. We gradually cut into the mature Beech hedging with shapes that echoed the rolling hills beyond and sowed large areas with a native chalk meadow mix. The more colourful cultivated terrace beds were planted with a mixture of perennials that do not stray too far from the surrounding meadow species making comfortable transitions from one to another.
