Roof gardens offer a unique set of challenges and opportunities – this quite large
roof terrace had spectacular views over London but was an un inviting, windy and in summer, hot place to be.
Given a very limited budget a simple and minimal solution was needed. The ugly old tiled roof was decked and a series of lightweight cedar screens were designed to divide the roof into more comfortable, contained areas of shade, shelter and privacy.
Along the westward, windy side a lavender hedge was planted in metal containers, which will in a year or two provide an extra layer of wind protection and privacy.
The clients beautiful collections of Acers (surprisingly thriving!) are displayed at their best and pots of seasonal flowers
and bulbs can be added and taken away.
