This garden is an oasis in miniature in the heart
of London.
It is split into two levels with the artist clients studio at the end. The brief was to organise the space in a simple modern way while providing as much room as possible for the clients
ever expanding collection
of plants.
To keep the space uncluttered, new beech sleepers were used to frame the upper level and provide seating. Raised beds were built on both levels, the top one being in the turn of the stairs and planted with a tall Silver Birch and when you walk out into the garden you are in its canopy, the garden is slowly revealed as you walk down the stairs.
The planting has its feet in the traditional English country garden but has a definite ‘modern’ edge; colours are darker, textures are bold, grasses dominate the
late garden.
